The transition from Jiu-Jitsu to MMA is often challenging. Fortunately, we have a couple of masters who have done just that. Mark Tucker, our head coach, had a fantastic MMA career fighting on many of the most prestigious shows in Britain. His style, a mixture of Judo, Jiu Jitsu and Jeet Kun Do amongst others lead him to many great victories! After training in many arts, Mark was introduced to Brazillian Jiu Jitsu by Sifu Rick Young. He received his blue belt from BJJ legend Royce Gracie in 2005, and in 2012 he received his Black Belt from Professor Pedro Bessa.
Directly under Mark is our homegrown hero Rob Homan. Rob ‘The Sheriff’ Homan began his journey into ass-kickery at the tender age of 5. He reached brown belt in Kenpo before dabbling in Aikido amongst other things. He moved to MMA, winning multiple times at a professional level, before finally falling in love with the grappling arts. He is currently a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and competes regularly, winning at National levels.
Our BJJ classes promote the idea that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique, taking the fight to the ground – most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent.
