Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Learn, Develop and Compete With Hybrid's Growing BJJ Team
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a technical grappling martial art that uses positioning, control and submissions rather than punches or kicks.
It develops fitness, strength, confidence and problem-solving skills, and it can become wonderfully addictive once you start understanding the game.
Whether you’re stepping onto the mats for the first time, returning to BJJ or looking for a competitive team that can help you progress, you’ll be welcome at Hybrid.
BJJ for Every Level
You don’t need previous martial arts experience or a certain level of fitness to begin.
Our programme supports:
- Complete beginners learning the fundamentals
- Recreational members training for fitness and enjoyment
- Experienced grapplers developing their technique
- Competitors preparing for tournaments
- MMA athletes improving their ground game
- Members who simply want to learn something new
Classes are structured, supportive and suitable for different abilities. Our coaches will explain the techniques clearly and help you progress safely and confidently.
Meet Our Head BJJ Coach, Andy Harris
Andy Harris is Black Belt and Hybrid’s Head BJJ Coach. He brings extensive competitive, coaching and strength-and-conditioning experience to the team.
His competitive achievements include:
- Two-time British Open Champion Brown belt and once at blue belt
- 18 gold medals
- Five silver medals
- Three bronze medals
- Two brown-belt super fight victories
Andy also has a sports science degree and decades of experience within fitness and coaching. His understanding of strength, conditioning and athletic development adds another valuable dimension to the BJJ programme.
Since leading the programme, Andy has rapidly developed a large and successful competitive team at Hybrid—something we are incredibly proud of.
Andy is supported by coaches Jordan, Tom, Lauren and Tandi and guest instructors from across the region, creating a knowledgeable and approachable coaching team for beginners, recreational members and competitors alike.
A Strong and Supportive Team
Although individual progress matters, BJJ is built around training partners.
At Hybrid, you’ll become part of a team that learns, drills and improves together. More experienced members help newer people settle in, and everyone plays a part in creating a respectful atmosphere.
For members who want to compete, our coaches offer experienced guidance and focused preparation. Competition is never compulsory, though. You are equally welcome to train for fitness, confidence, stress relief and enjoyment.
There are no egos to impress and no expectation that you already know what you’re doing.
Just turn up, step onto the mats and start learning.
Strength and Conditioning for Grapplers
Andy’s background in strength and conditioning gives our BJJ team access to a deeper understanding of physical preparation, movement and performance.
He also operates Grapple Strong independently as part of his private coaching business, providing specialist strength-and-conditioning work for grapplers.
Grapple Strong is separate from the standard Hybrid membership, but it complements the quality and depth of experience Andy brings to our BJJ programme.
Eleven BJJ Sessions Every Week
Our BJJ timetable includes eleven weekly sessions, providing opportunities for beginners, recreational grapplers and competitors to train consistently. We are proud and privileged to be part of the ZR Family.
