MMA Without the Intimidation
We understand that walking into an MMA gym for the first time can feel daunting.
You might imagine that everyone will be an experienced fighter, that you’ll be expected to spar immediately or that you need to get fit before joining.
That isn’t how we do things at Hybrid.
We’re a welcoming, family-run gym where egos are left at the door.
Our coaches explain the techniques, experienced members look after beginners and everyone is encouraged to progress at their own pace.
Some of our members want to compete. Others train for fitness, confidence, self-defence, stress relief or simply because MMA is brilliant fun.
Both are equally welcome.

Meet the MMA Coaching Team
Jordan Walters
Head MMA Coach
Jordan Walters leads Hybrid’s MMA programme and is also an active professional MMA fighter with a current record of 2–0. He holds a purple belt in BJJ.
As both a coach and competitor, Jordan brings current, first-hand fight experience into his sessions. He understands the technical, physical and mental demands of preparing to compete and uses that experience to support everyone from complete beginners to active fighters.
Jordan’s coaching helps members connect the different elements of MMA, including striking, takedowns, cage work and ground fighting.
You do not need ambitions to fight to benefit from his experience. Jordan creates sessions that challenge established athletes while remaining supportive and accessible for people who are completely new to MMA.
Ryan Taylor
MMA Coach
Ryan Taylor supports the Hybrid fight team through strength-and-conditioning programming designed around the physical demands of combat sports.
Ryan is an experienced MMA fighter & holds a purple belt in BJJ. He also supports and corners our fighters at competitions, helping them prepare properly and ensuring that they have a knowledgeable team around them on fight day.
Ryan’s involvement means our competitive athletes receive support beyond their technical martial arts sessions, with physical preparation forming part of the wider fight-team programme.

Tom
MMA and BJJ Coaching Support
Tom brings valuable a wealth of knowledge as a competitor and coach across both BJJ and MMA. He holds a brown belt in BJJ.
He supports the team with technical advice, fight preparation and cornering at events. His understanding of both grappling and complete MMA makes him an important part of the wider coaching team.
Together, Jordan, Ryan and Tom provide joined-up support throughout training, fight camp and competition day.

More Than a Fight Team
You don’t have to be a fighter to belong to an MMA gym.
Hybrid is a members-only community where people train together, encourage one another and form genuine friendships. New members are welcomed into the team, and our more experienced athletes understand their responsibility to help beginners settle in.
You can train hard without aggression, develop confidence without ego and challenge yourself without being made to feel out of place.
Come for the training. Stay for the people.

If you later decide that you want to compete, our coaching team can help you understand the commitment involved and guide you through the process safely.

A Message From Jordan
Thinking About Starting MMA?
Maybe you’ve been watching our social media, seeing the training and wondering whether you could give it a try.
The answer is yes.
You don’t have to fight or compete to train at Hybrid. Many of our MMA, Muay Thai and BJJ members are hobbyists who train for fun, fitness, confidence and their mental health.
We’ll look after you from your first session. You won’t be expected to know what you’re doing, keep up with experienced fighters or prove yourself to anybody.
There are no egos on our mats. Leave your ego outside, come in ready to learn and aim to improve by just 1% every day.
We want everyone to feel welcome, enjoy their training and leave the mats better than when they arrived.
Whether you want to compete one day or simply discover what MMA could do for you, your journey can start here.
